CBAB Restored

Post by The Editor »

Hello everyone.

Completely by chance, I discovered an old external hard drive in a box in the loft which was missing a power adaptor – so I ordered one from Amazon and carefully powered it up. It is slow, clunky and some of the information is patchy – but I found the source files of my old Commercial Breaks and Beats site in a backup dating from around three months before the lovely guys at EasyCGI wiped out the original. I also found a message board backup, which has been restored here.

I'm re-building as much of the original .asp site as possible in PHP and it is already working well, with a small pending list of functionality that i'm working through to get it to the exact point it was in 2008. It has been an educational and hugely cathartic exercise, and has made me wonder what it could turn into over time.

Nowadays we have Shazam, Siri, Google and Alexa to tell us what the song we can hear is, which is great. However the core of this site was always about the community, and many of you have emailed to say just that over the years. There's a chance that this site could be restored and grow into something different going forward.

If you have any suggestions you would like to make – or just want to say hello, please do.
