VW "The Power of Understatement"

Post by Jonathan »

Anyone know the soundtrack from this ad that is running at the moment? The tagline is "The Power of Understatement" and features this successful 'high-flying' executive.

Cheers
Jonathan.

VW Song

Post by Jayemm »

I saw this on TV last night. The song is 'The Great Pretender' but I don't know who is singing it.

I did wonder if it was Jarvis Cocker as he covered a James Bond song in a similar style, but I'm really not sure.

Dead on balls accurate about the title though!!

Listening to it it sounds specially recorded for the ad, session musician type thing. I can't see that anyone would record it speculatively in that style. It would have had a b****y slim chance of it being spotted and I doubt it would have been a huge commercial success!
Try mailing the ad agency, DDB London, maybe they'll tell you?? They hate it I'm sure but hey-ho.

Ohh Yes! I'm the Great Pretender!

I found this on the VW website:

"The music is called 'The Great Pretender' produced by Adrian Sutton, based on the original by Buck Ram.

Hope this helps

Adrian Sutton

Wandering slightly off-topic (if the moderators see fit to move my post into a new topic - feel free- I did search for a relevant post first!), Adrian Sutton did the music to the Nytol advert, called "Dreamland" (thanks for the links SIMONIRIS!)

Edit (Update): I did find a thread at http://www.commercialbreaksandbeats.org ... php?t=2913 regarding the Nytol ad.

Adrian's website http://www.adriansutton.com/ now points to his MySpace page - unfortunately the links on http://www.adriansutton.com/wp-content/ ... nloads.php no longer seem to be working...
