I recently saw a TV ad for a newspaper (forget which one) promoting a cd give away. It showed black and white footage of a bearded man playing a guitar. He was singing a really haunting song. The ad was accompanied by the phrase, " when he opened his mouth, his soul flew out". Can someone please tell me the name of the artist or the song.

I think the last single by Johnny Cash was a cover of Nine Inch Nails track Hurt. Very haunting, I think this may be what you're after.
